the fried tofu crew follow up their excellent first course with another tasty selection! on the a-side sweet soulful voices catch you from the first try on. but dont be hasty, or you will burn your tongue. this is hot and far from being a dessert. after the first impression of sweetness, you will feel the spicy taste coming through. we all love that slight burning on the lips, making you really feel the feel. the first cut on the b-side digs even deeper into sweetness. somehow everything seems to be so lovely, each time this one is played out. its clear that even the ruff guys cant resist the taste of honey. real sweet and spicy, thats how its got to be. things are straightened out on the final cut, which finishes off the meal with a raw funk jam. the extended guitar groove gets back to the basics. sometimes few essential things, combined in the right way, can be all you need. a typical mistake when preparing a meal is to add too many different spices.

the focus energy / motive order twelve inch takes seamss lush electronica in a new direction. having captured the essence of the berlin summertime with the tourist ep, seams returns with and altogether more dancefloor orientated release. driven by a desire to make audiences at his live shows dance, a much more propulsive sound manifests itself across the two tracks, both built from the same ingredients but taking them in two very different directions. focus energys minimal percussion and vocal stabs pushes seamss sound further towards the techno production hinted at in hung markets, whereas motive order rearranges focus energys parts into a much more dense wall of sound, filled with arpeggios and noise, evoking the sound of the border community fold.

and are a duo living in manchester, uk. they have released a split 12 inch with 16 bit on mindset in 2009, the second 12 inch on black sun records that came out recently and a couple of 12 inches on horizontal ground. they sent me various batches of tracks spanning a wide range of sounds, all rooted in techno to my ears but spanning different tempos, emphasis and mood. i selected three of those tracks to appear on this ep, ranging between 130 and 135 bpm. following the legendary first two, stoically super minimal records >sog 1< and >sog 2< that provide ecstasy disguised as boredom on kompakt extra/speicher in 2007, and the outstanding beautifully bizarre >sog - abweichung< on profan in 2010, we are now listening to >fremde hÄnde<. like its predecessors, this sog stands in the tradition of >the art of omission< with wolfgang voigt variegating his preference for the bluntly straightforward quaver bass in two different forms. the a-side contains a tonally noncommittal sequence ambling across the keyboard in quantised form, reminiscing of the arpeggiator (accompaniment function) function of early 70ies and 80ies synthesizers. on the b-side, daring and thoroughly unquantised quaver rhythms rock around a bass drum that, as the only straight element, tries to keep the whole thing together. the result sounds a little like a delirious can live.

self defence returns in full effect with new yorks one and only dj dukes (of sex trax / power music fame) >summer madness ep<. dj duke had retired from the music front for a while, after he had about 300 records emerged after his >blow your whistle< blew up in 1993 and during the past few years. with releases dating back to 1990, you know the mans got skills aplenty, and they once again get a killer workout on this ep. each of the tracks shows a different side of his music-making and rewards ones time and attention, demonstrating that duke plays in his own league of house music. a bit of curry flavour seeps into >summer blast< by way of a sinuous string melody, adding an exotic tinge to the breeziness that otherwise infuses the cut. a funky, vibes-like motif and analog synth streams bring additional colour to the scene while a crisp, pumping groove locks everything solidly in place

in addition to the >best of ambient< compilation from john beltran, two remixes are made to honour one of our favourite electronic music producers of all time. the a-side gives us a reinterpretation of >brilliant flood< from rising star kassem mosse together with his studiomate mix mup. this remix smoothly pimps up the track whilst leaving the atmosphere of the original intact. on the b-side, sven weisemann made a composition as a tribute to john beltran, which contains elements of different original cuts. the result is svens glorify tribute mix, a dreamy epic adventurous nine-minute masterpiece in three parts

aah, how we have missed them! the fine young gentlemen that are channel x, two of stil vor talents most active producers of meticulously crafted and deeply energetic tech-house smash hits. and just in time for the open-air season they now come back with two very convincing pieces of dancefloor art. first up is >little symphony<, an epic space opera that takes it cues from early 90s techno and mixes it up with post-modern grooves and beats. the wide and open spaces are filled with some very hymnal string patterns that are given a final treatment with a reverbed and high-pitched vocal sample. contrast that with the rather jittery beat and a subbass as deep as the frequencies will go and you got yourself a substantially clear bit of techno that is best imagined when it is dark and only some beams of air tell you where you are. channel x do not produce, they direct and all of the sounds are their actors! on the flip things get more light-hearted and set for the daylight hours as well. >steamboat willie< is a heavily sample-orientated swinging piece of jack. the rhythm guitar lead the way on top of a clap-based loop that sets the basis for some very jazzy interpretations along the way. clarinets, trumpets, percussions, brass, effects and even some talking vocal samples are all allowed to join in this hedonistic big band that is at play. this is one for the sunshine, this is one for the smiles on the faces, this is one to feel instantly good about yourself and everything around you. two very different tracks on this ep, but both equally stand out for themselves

altogether lost is a collaboration between the bristol based experimental techno duo emptyset and the detroit vocalist cornelius harris aka atlantis from underground resistance. inspired by an early 20th century poem of mystical heritage, the project marks the first ever joint production by these three major capitals of electronic music and is backed up by a very friendly and creative label partnership between emptysets label multiverse and clr from berlin/germany where both labels are going to release different versions of remixes of the original in a mutual promotion and release approach. clr started this series with the release of the stunning original and a slamming remix by chris liebing and now follows up with a ben klock remix and a very deep and atmospheric interpretation by ripperton.

dubline records unveils their next release by the neurodub duo that runs the dubline camp - melamin & wicked sway. the theory behind this production outfit is balance. neurologically the human brain percieves information to be incomplete if it is not symmetrical. in a practice of endless work ethic the sound design interfaces perfected beats that have an even balance of elements. the process in which people follow music as a path is implied in the waking of the conscious mind while in it spirit. the thought process of their approach to neuro is always written for the peoples natural instinct to follow obvious paths of information that can be used to direct the appliance of listening as a being of light tunes in and drops out the appropriate information. thus by drawing attention to the information the focus remains to show the difference between the foreground and background. a focal point is intended to encourage the listener to always furthur the exploration of the information presented. using elements that are different to show that they are clearly different components of presented information and yet both also with similarity to those of the same reference. its simply easier for ones step towards enlightenment in the experience of being human to realize the thought process and recognize the ego, reminding at the expense of the thinking brain that its cheaper to die.

subtlety is not the first word used in connection with most djs, but there is much more the métier of germany s gregor tresher than simply playing records, as lights from the inside attest: just as a painting or photograph appears to move if one stares at it long enough, with close listening the stratified grooves and melodies assembled on gregor s stunning third full-lenght artist album reveal an organic universe of shifting sound. meticulous attention to the latter element—melody—was of utmost concern to the frankfurt resident. not obvious, eight-bar earworms that would quickly exhaust their welcome, but musical lines that could repeat, develop and intertwine in different patterns. in this regard, lights from the inside harks back to gregor tresher s earlier releases, but as always his sound aesthetic continues to evolve in new directions.

claque musique ready to unleash their latest offering, from an artist who has become a key member of the claque family, rio padice. having in recent years devoted time to learning the production techniques of the 90s, blending the use of software, hardware and sampling, his productions, unlike so much of the current trend for looking back, have a mature and studied classic sound and feel to them. his work this year has seen firmly rooted in the front of the most discerning of record boxes.rio follows his remix of micro_on (claquemusique10) with his very own woodland ep. as we have accustomed to, rio delights us with another selection of tracks that see him exploring and bringing together the best in classic sounds with his very own fresh contemporary spin. the beautiful trip through woodland opens the ep. a dreamy bass-heavy acidic number. much different is ocrons land, with its static sounds and almost industrial feel. mutant camels with its bubbling bass, rasping hats and dromedary movement rounds out the originals. remixing the title track is padova born alex picone. renowed for his releases on bass culture, mus and cadenza and fresh from the success of his fahrenheit single, alex ramps things up for the dancefloor on woodland, replacing the original acid line with some fresh guitar licks. perfect!

detlef is the new moniker of alexander georgiandis, an individual that has graced the dance music scene with releases on various labels and gigs in clubs all over the world. having made his debut in february 2010 detlef has already managed to release music on respected labels such as be as one, material series, starlight unlimited and most recently has signed with viva music. cooking and experimenting different styles of music, detlef is a music lover and prefers not to say many things about himself but speak through his music. its time to see what the future holds for this much anticipated and sought after artist.
